The Impulse Comedy Troupe performed in C Night of Winterfest, a series of student-directed and acted plays, last Saturday at 9:00 PM in the Black Box Theater of the Kirby Arts Center.

Following Club Night, Co-Presidents Harrison Lee ’19, David Hernandez ’19, and Danica Bajaj ’21 held auditions for the Troupe and began rehearsing for Winterfest in October.

Prior to Saturday evening’s performance, the Troupe served refreshments to audience members who had just watched B Night of Winterfest. After introducing itself, the group played five improvisational games which focused on acting and physicalization.

“A lot of our games were audience-interactive, so we got a lot of suggestions from them. We also had audience members come up to the stage with us and give us suggestions right there,” Lee said.

The performance concluded with the game “park bench,” which the Troupe plays at the end of its weekly meetings.

“In the game, two people are seated on a bench, and one person’s objective is to get the other one to leave. Everyone plays and can go up whenever [he or she] [wants] to.” Lee said.

“We had some really great performances from [Diana Bianco ’19] and [Sam Hensler ’19]. [Esha Akhtar ’21] and [Gabby Medina ’21] were also new to the club this year, but they really hit their stride and were very versatile,” Hernandez said.

While the group faced some challenges, Lee said, “Being a big company actually played to our strengths because [actors were] able to channel their energy into their performances.”

On the Troupe’s future plans, Bajaj said, “We’re thinking of having our own night for Winterfest and possibly doing a combined show with the acapella groups. We have a performance in May, so that should be exciting as well.”
